Members of the TCTY attended a training conducted by Drs. BigFoot and Schmidt from the The Indian Country Child Trauma Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This training was specific to Native populations and the unique characteristics of tribal people. Honoring Children, Mending the Circle is the clinical application of the healing process in a traditional framework that supports the belief of American Indians and Native Alaskan culture of spiritual renewal leading to healing and recovery. This model combines trauma-sensitive interventions with elements of cognitive behavioral therapy into a treatment designed to address the unique needs of children with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other problems related to traumatic life experiences.
